Why financial services needs multi-modal AI detection
Fraudsters are using generative AI to pass the checks that banks, lenders and insurers have been relying on. A deepfake face can get through a selfie check. A cloned voice can pass phone banking security. An AI-edited bank statement or payslip can support a loan application. Sometimes only one part of content is fake, and the rest is real.
AI detection tools that check only one modality miss these attacks. A face check sees a convincing human video but doesn’t hear the cloned voice. A document check reads the text but will miss an AI-edited image. AI Aware’s detection system is multi-modal. It checks every modality of content, so you can see which parts are fake and which parts are real.
How AI fraud can happen
RealAI
Deepfake account opening
A synthetic face and an AI-edited ID are used to open an account or pass KYC checks.
Cloned voice on phone banking
A familiar voice calls to reset security details or approve a payment.
Executive payment fraud
A deepfake video call from a “senior colleague” asks for an urgent transfer.
AI-edited documents
Bank statements, payslips and invoices altered with AI to support a loan or claim.
Fake insurance claims
AI-generated damage photos and AI-written claim descriptions.
Real customer, AI script
A real person reads AI-written answers in a recorded interview or verification call. AI Aware turns the speech into text and checks the words.
How multi-modal detection works
Each layer of the content is checked by its own detector.
Video frames
Video is broken into frames, and each frame is checked for facial inconsistencies, unnatural blinking, lighting artefacts and changes between frames.
Voice
The audio is checked for signs of a cloned or synthetic voice, including speech patterns, prosody, background noise and spectral characteristics.
Words spoken
Speech is converted to text and checked by the AI text detector.
Images and documents
Images are checked for pixel-level artefacts, repeated textures and metadata inconsistencies. Text is checked passage by passage.
In-depth analysis
Each layer is reported together, so you see which part is real and which is AI.
